What I promise applies to every area of law — above all to the everyday ones. Simply ask.
How I work
I was born in 1963 and have more than 30 years of experience as a lawyer and business consultant. The details of my career are set out in my profile.
Since 1994 my focus has been legal advice and legal drafting: succession law (wills, powers of attorney for health and welfare, advance healthcare directives) and contract law, particularly for entrepreneurs founding and running a business.
Over more than 30 years it has not stopped there. What I promise applies to every area of law, above all the everyday ones: general civil law, employment law, criminal defence.
I listen carefully, and together we work out what your interests actually are. That sounds obvious; often it is not. Sometimes standard solutions are offered where something tailored is needed. Sometimes advice is given without regard to the outcome or to what the client can realistically carry.
Good advice is also marked by imagination — and by the courage to reject solutions that would harm the client in the long run.
Those are the standards I hold my own work to. That is the basis on which I offer you my services.
What I hold myself to is set out in my working principles.
On law and lawyering
And here is the fuller answer, for those with more time
Welcome, and thank you for the chance to introduce myself while you look for the right lawyer. You rightly expect the professional fit to be there. But there are also basic convictions about legal work that have to suit you. Here are the ones that matter most to me, formed over thirty years as a lawyer and business consultant. You have every right to know them beforehand.
Shaping
The law does not only impose rules and restrictions — it opens up room to shape things
The law makes it possible to turn ideas into plans and plans into reality. That covers the whole entrepreneurial field: agreements on founding a company, on protecting business ideas, on how to work with business partners. Here more than two decades of practical work as a business consultant come into play.
But private individuals need room to shape things too: in wills, marriage contracts and contracts of inheritance, in the crises of marriages and partnerships, and in one-off loans and purchases where a clear agreement spares everyone a headache later.
In all of it, I promise to listen properly and to work out with you where your long-term interests lie — and then to give them legal form.
Resolving conflict
The law should be used to settle conflicts fairly and for good
Life is not free of conflict. Disputes arise between shareholders, between heirs, within families, inside companies — in employment relationships and with business partners.
Here too the decisive question is: what is in your long-term interest? On that basis, fair and durable solutions can be developed with the other side.
Thirty years of practice, my training as a mediator, and my familiarity with very different negotiating situations all help — as does knowing how to record a negotiated outcome so that it holds.
Starting again
Everyone deserves a second chance when something has gone wrong
Conflicts with the criminal law should not be played down. But this is equally true: everyone deserves a committed defence conducted with the means of the rule of law — all the more so against unfounded accusations.
In my experience, hard work on the detail matters more than striking words.
Things can also go wrong financially. Then there are negotiations with creditors, or insolvency proceedings that make a fresh start possible. The law offers clarity and new chances in difficulty; it should also be used to begin again, towards a self-determined and self-reliant life.
If you can picture working with a lawyer who holds these convictions and these standards, I would be glad to hear from you.
With those convictions,
Lothar Radermacher, Rechtsanwalt
